With a September bursting with activities and events, Gijón becomes the perfect city to send off the summer. Want to know what we have in store?
From 8th to 14th September 2014, Asturias’ largest city will be the venue for the World Rock Climbing Championships in the categories of speed, difficulty and paraclimbing, with the expected participation of over 800 climbers from 60 or more different countries. Rock climbing is very popular in Asturias; so much so that Gijón has one of the best climbing walls in Spain. Thrills and adrenaline guaranteed!
In addition to this spectacular sporting event, the city’s festive and cultural programme continues as summer is not over yet! Deep-rooted traditional fiestas such as those held in the fishermen’s quarter of Cimavilla will be accompanied by concerts such as the one Coque Malla is to give within the framework of the ‘Intimate’ Concert Cycle at the Botanical Gardens and shows like Entredos, by the Capicúa Theatre/Circus Company, which has received numerous awards including best theatre or circus show.
To bring the month and the summer season to a close, Gijón is to celebrate World Tourism Day with a week of open houses, discounts and activities at its tourism facilities. There will also be guided thematic tours and discounts to enjoy the celebrated local cuisine, as well as −of course− the Gijón Cider Trail.
