Besides a comprehensive offering of municipal sports centres and facilities where residents can practice a huge range of sports or simply keep fit, Gijón organises top-notch national and international sports competitions throughout the year.
For those looking for a ‘fit’ excuse to visit Gijón, the following international events stand out in 2014.
- The city is to host the 2nd International Badminton Tournament from 21st to 23rd February, at the Tejerona Sports Centre, as well as another international tournament of the same sport at the very same venue between 5th and 7th December.
- The ‘Villa de Gijón’ International Speed Roller Skating Tournament will be held on 26th and 27th April, while on 27th September, roller skaters will have the chance to participate in the Asturpatín International Tournament. The next day, 28th September, the city will host an International Roller Skating Marathon.
- The Las Mestas sports grounds will once again be the venue for the CSIO 5* International Show Jumping Competition, which will take place between 30th August and 4th September this year.
- From 8th to 14th September, the city will host the IFSC Paraclimbing and Climbing (Lead and Speed) World Championships, at the city’s major sports centre.
