What do films like Waltz with Bashir by Ari Folman, Welcome by Philippe Lioret, Blue Valentine by Derek Cianfrance and About the Pink Sky by Keiichi Kobayashii have in common? The answer is that they are all exceptional films that have won some kind of award at the Gijón International Film Festival (FICX).
I must confess we are impatient. We still have to wait until 15th to 23rd November to enjoy the Rellumes, Enfants Terribles, AnimaFICX, Boundaries, Mutant Genres, Spanish Short Film Night, Day of Asturias sections, in addition to the official section and other cycles where, no matter your age or tastes, you will find your 2013 movie in the 51st Edition of FICX.
The city will be brimming with cinema, including artists, jury and audience, all with a common theme: the Festival. Just like every year, there’ll be concerts, talks and parallel activities.
Pending the full programme for this edition, Patrice Leconte has already told us that he will present his film A promise as well as chair the Festival Jury, there will be a cycle devoted Jean-François Laguionie and Isidro Ferrer is to design the poster.
The thing is you know… to talk of cinema is to talk of Gijón.
