Flavours of the Atlantic Arc 2013 in Gijón

cocinero 239x300 Flavours of the Atlantic Arc 2013 in Gijón

What do the countries of the Atlantic Arc have in common? Their history, their nature, being bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, northern culture and, of course, gastronomy… expertise in the kitchen and at the table is a common denominator of Portugal, Spain, northern France, the UK and Ireland.

So, in celebrating the 2013 Atlantic Arc Festival, show cooking, children’s workshops, salon Agro-food and Tourism Salon and gastro events are an important part of the festival programme.

This will bring together international Michelin-starred chefs in the show cooking event to be held in the Plaza Mayor (town square) on Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th: Eneko Atxa from Azurmendi (Bilbao), Nicolas Magie from Le Saint James (Bordeaux), Jose Antonio Campoviejo from El corral del Indianu (Arriondas) and Gonzalo Pañeda from Auga (Gijón), Ricardo Costa from Yeatman (Oporto), Oscar Calleja from Annua Gastro (San Vicente de la Barquera) and Pepe Solla from Restaurante Solla (Pontevedra). In all, they hold 11 Michelin stars and, besides disclosing their secrets to the public, they will give master classes for professionals belonging to the hotel and catering trade on these days.

So that it doesn’t end up just as theory, you can find Atlantic Arc products in the Agro-food Salon located on Liquerique Pier. Visitors can enjoy tastings and products in the salon, which also serves as a meeting point for professionals enabling the renewal of trade ties between countries.

And if you don’t want to get down to work in the kitchen, but rather to enjoy the gastro events, some of the city’s wine bars, cafes, restaurants and cider taverns have included dishes with the flavour of the Atlantic Arc in their menus: Asturian fabada bean stew, wild boar with mushrooms, cheese and cured beef platters, hake in cider sauce, Atlantic cod fideuá… and more!

Ultimately, the role of history is to forge a better future and the Atlantic Arc Festival has been taken this into account via workshops exclusively aimed at the younger members of the family: How to make cheese and Sweet Sensations. Desserts for children
