It is the name of the old town of Gijon located on the south side of Santa Catalina Hill. It is the oldest part of the city because of the existence of roman archeological remains. The most important are the Roman Baths.
At the beginning of sixteenth century a commercial port was built on the west side of the neighborhood, changing it into sailors’ residence and causing the expansion of the city to the south. At the beginning of the twentieth century the yacht club was built on its cliffs with the first swimming pool of Gijon.
Nowadays its buildings have been rehabilitated for the most part, the old port has been transformed in marina and the neighborhood has become a residential, commercial and leisure center.
The top of Santa Catalina Hill is a park which contains the well known sculpture “Elogio del Horiconte” from Eduardo Chillida.
Cimavilla offers a wide range of “sidrerias” (typical Asturian restaurants) where you can taste good products of the region accompanied by cider. You can also find different bars and pubs to have a drink and dance.
