The “Semana Negra” or “Noir Week” is an annual fair that was born 20 years ago trying to become a festival which mixes literary elements with leisure: a great fiesta of culture in the street. It was produced and managed since its beginnings by Paco Ignacio Taibo II, an “asturmexican” writer.
Every year, over a million people attend this happening which offers a wide variety of activities as:
Cultural activities- Conferences, round-table discussions, poems reading at midnight with the participation of known poets as Angel Gonzalez, Juan Gelman, Juan Bañuelos, Joaquin Sabina…
Leisure activities- Food stands, cafes and bars, music, mechanical rides, circus performers, concerts and much more partying events.
Other festivals are also celebrated within the “Noir Week” as the International Encounter of Photojournalism, exhibitions, book fairs…
The “Semana negra” has its own newspaper, A quemarropa (Pointblank) published daily throughout the festival, and self-proclaimed “dean of the noir press”.
This literary and party week will be celebrated from the 9th to 18th July. For more information you can visit the organization website
